The Richard Goldman interview and feature was an unalloyed pleasure to write. It afforded us the opportunity to become friends with this special man who was one of the most important philanthropists of his time. He created the ‘Green Nobel Prize’, he endowed many programs and buildings at UC Berkeley, he supported dozens of institutions and charities around the globe, and he become a model on giving for tech millionaires in Silicon Valley. Benefit magazine offered the opportunity to write countless long and short pieces on the philanthropic landscape of San Francisco.

The Fund for Sustainable Tomorrows, where Dorian is Board Chair and Development Partner/Creative Director, selects powerful documentaries and magnifies their impact by increasing their audiences via public television screenings, film festival appearances and showings to members of relevant nonprofits.

Phil’s Camino is the inspiring true story of free spirit Phil, a man living with Stage 4 cancer and dreaming of walking the 500-mile spiritual pilgrimage Camino de Santiago across Spain. Unable to make the trip, he does the next best thing: he builds a camino in the forest behind his house, starts to walk, and traces his progress on a map. Upon reaching ‘Santiago de Compostela’—without ever leaving his backyard—Phil gets a clean scan and his doctors grant him a ‘chemo holiday’, with permission to miss one chemo cycle and 28 days to go walk the ancient route in Spain. The result is magical. We created companion booklets for the nonprofits we’ve partnered with to screen the film. We also conduct a live zoom Q&A session with Phil, which never fails to become wonderfully inspirational for the audience.

16 Bars is also part of the Fund’s stable. It’s a riveting film about music made behind bars and the reentry issues facing prisoners. We created the ‘sell sheet’ used to support the public television showings.
